Hello, everyone and welcome back! I can’t believe it’s August already. July feels like it only lasted ten minutes but I’m excited to see what this month of life brings. Anyways, I know I said I wanted to be consistent with posting but I’ve had a lot going on in my work life that I just haven’t had the time to sit down and write. So, without further ado…here’s this week's "get-together" article!
Collaboration. What does this mean to you? This past week, I had the opportunity to meet and work with artists from all over the world to participate in the second annual Collab24 Devised Theatre Festival! The festival which was nominated last year by Broadway World Chicago for “Best Streaming Play,” brings together artists from across the globe with various backgrounds and disciplines to collaborate and create a production over a collective 24 hours throughout the course of a week. Throughout this process, three challenges are presented that each group of artists must incorporate somehow into their piece. This year’s theme was: “The Perfect Storm-Creation Through Chaos.” My group titled: “A Tribe Called Elemental” directed by Sarah Tan, along with artists, Marcia Eastmond and Erick Perez, put together a short film called, 60%, which tells the story of three unlikely people who find that they have one thing in common- battling their everyday storms. It was so fun getting to work with them and making our ideas into a reality. If you’d like to hear more about my experience and our process when creating this film, click the link below for an exclusive interview I did with one of Collab24’s producers, Katherine Tanner Silverman!

The week ended with the live-streaming of everyone’s creations and an awards ceremony. Of course, I dressed for the event with my sparkly pink Barbie inspired dress. (I’m so excited to see the upcoming Barbie movie directed by Greta Gerwig!!) Our film ended up winning two awards: first, for best integration of prompts tied with the group “Dans le Noir” and finally with the “Make Your Mark Award” which was voted on by the committee of 2021 Collab24 Alumni Winners of “Our Audience Favorite” and “Make Your Mark” awards.
A special thank you and shoutout to Thumbprint Studios, Mentalhaus, the producers, directors, and makers of Collab24 for hosting such a wonderful event and for giving artists the opportunity to create and connect in a positive and fun environment. That’s a wrap on Collab24! I am so grateful that I have crossed paths with all of these incredibly talented individuals and I hope to work with them all again in the future. I’m going to end this article with the lyrics to the theme from The Carol Burnett Show because I feel it describes my experience perfectly:
“I’m so glad we had this time together, just to have a laugh, or sing a song. Seems we just get started and before you know it, comes the time we have to say, ‘So, long.’” *Ear tug* <3
Have a great rest of your week everybody! :)
